Today is the big day. I am up early this morning enjoying a cup of coffee preparing for a big day. In a little under 3 hours I will be in attendance of our annual Claus Cram session. This 6 hour event is filled with numerous speakers, mostly from within the Christmas community. Each speaker has dedicated their time to helping other Christmas artists learn and become the best Santa, Mrs. Claus, and even elves that they can be. My segment will be on the power and importance of improv, such a vital tool in helping portrayal artists be more authentic in their portrayal. I will spend part of the next few hours going over my notes and the things I want to talk about.
Though it is always good to have a “Backstory”, especially if you are working with another Christmas artist. Being prepared to answer questions from excited children, there will always be those moments and questions which cannot be rehearsed. This is why improv is so vital to what we do in keeping the magic alive and giving it our all during the events in which we serve.
