We’ve arrived at the height of the holiday season—a time when the world sparkles a little brighter, families gather a little closer, and Santa’s calendar fills to the brim. As a Santa Claus portrayal artist, downtime becomes a rare and precious gift. Today, with a brief pause between visits, I wanted to share a few thoughts about the guiding principles that shape my work during this magical time of year.
1. Protecting the Magic—Always
My first and most sacred obligation is to protect the magic of Santa at all costs. This is the heart of the portrayal—the invisible thread that connects wonder, belief, and imagination. Every gesture, every word, every moment with a child or family is guided by this responsibility. When the magic is preserved, everything else falls beautifully into place.
2. Bringing Each Client’s Vision to Life
Equally important is ensuring that every client’s event unfolds smoothly and joyfully. Long before I put on the suit, I spend time understanding their ideal “best outcome”—what success looks like through their eyes. My goal is to bring that vision to life, whether it’s a corporate celebration, a community event, or a quiet family gathering. Delivering on that promise is part of what makes portraying Santa both an honor and a craft.
3. Serving Families with Presence and Patience
Families hold deep traditions around Santa, traditions that often span generations. I take this responsibility to heart. When I visit with children and their loved ones, I do so with intention—never rushing, never hurrying a magical moment. Each child deserves my full, undivided attention. Whether they are shy, excited, curious, or full of questions, their time with Santa should feel special and singular.
4. Caring for the Santa Behind the Suit
Finally, I owe an obligation to myself. The season can be wonderfully busy, beautifully chaotic, and physically demanding. To give my best to every family and event, I must also care for the person inside the red suit. Rest, proper nutrition, hydration, exercise, meditation, and moments of quiet all play vital roles in sustaining my health—both mental and physical—throughout the season.
In the midst of all the hustle and heartwarming moments, I am reminded that portraying Santa is more than a role—it is a privilege. Thank you to everyone who invites me into their homes, their events, and their traditions. It is an honor to help keep the magic alive.
